for everyone
You know what a Sorbetero is right? or am i just old? that ice cream guy pushing around that oldskool ice cream cart with kalesa wheels and a hand held bell.. it usually has 3 flavors. i remember Ube, Cheese, and Chocolate was most common. maybe the white one too, i forgot. Not that Selecta sidecar-type ice cream seller that plays that annoying melody over and over (gosh, just imagine manong selecta. he's probably dreaming that melody already)
my sister and i was just talking about it, reminiscing our childhood days and the known 'issues' of the so-called "Dirty Ice Cream (DIC)" ^_^

here were some DIC topics i remember.

1. The Manong's Penis-Essence Cone Tip (i picked the most disturbing title)
-did your parents or titas ever tell you never to eat the bottom tip of that sorbetes ice cream? coz when Manong Sorbetes takes a leak in the sideewalk, he touches his (bleep) and doesnt wash his hands. then he picks the cones by the bottom tips to serve the ice cream.
i guess when this concern spread, vendors started placing small tissue wraps on those cone tips.

2. Ice Cream Sandwich Pinoy Style.
-for some extra coins manong can scoop the ice cream directly into a small bread bun, and you eat it like a sandwich ^_^ didnt really like this, but i like that small (monai, i think) bread alone.

3. Heaven in Sorbetes Cart.
-have you ever bought Dry Ice from manong sorbetes? yeah dry ice. they use dry ice to cool their ice cream. we used to do that when we were kids. then put it in a basin of water and pretend we're in heaven. fun ^_^

4. Shake Manong's Bell.
- have you tried taking over that noisy little ting-a-ling thing from manong? try it next time. experience ^_^ better yet, push the cart and see how manong feels.

There are still Sorbeteros around right? when i was a kid i always dreamed of buying a sorbetes ice cream that had ice cream scoops like 12 inches high ^_^

OMG! This is sooo funny! I don't think a lola or a tita of mine ever warned me about #1! Well, for as long as I can remember, their cones always have tissued bottoms. hehe.

I remember asking my Mama about #2. She said it was the weird eating of Tagalogs. Apparently, Tagalogs have teased Bisayas of their pansit-on-a-slice-of-bread eating habit.

I'll put #3 and #4 on my "Things to Do Before I Die" list. All I asked from Manong Sorbetero was a free scoop. Remember how tiny those scoops were... wait they still are. :)

hahaha ^_^ i remember those scoops seemed bigger when i was a kid.. then again i was smaller so it may have looked bigger ^_^ yeah they're really tiny. and um.. is it just me? or don't all the flavors kinda just taste the same? except for the cheese one with real cheese bits on it.
